About Robin Hood Bay

You might not know this, but the Robin Hood Bay site was first used by the US Military, initially as a training facility and then as a waste disposal site. In 1963, the site became the property of the City of St. John’s and subsequently, the regional municipal landfill.

In November of 2007 the Provincial Government officially designated Robin Hood Bay as the site for the Eastern Region’s Integrated Waste Management Facility. Since then the City and the Province have spent more than $50 million to re-engineer the site to a modern, environmentally sound waste management facility.

The Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility is owned and operated by the City of St. John’s. The Eastern Waste Management committee contracts with the City of St. John’s to provide waste disposal services for other municipalities in the Eastern Region.
